Armstrong County Genealogy Club

The Genealogy Committee of the Armstrong County Historical Museum and Genealogical
Society will be Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in the Mildred Lankerd
Thomas Genealogy Library, 300 North McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.

Guest speaker will be Katie Gaudreau, Board Member of the Historical and Genealogical
Society of Indiana County. She will be discussing women and their access to property
during the early nineteenth century. At this time, women were very limited in their
rights to real and personal property, however, many had enough to warrant their
writing a will. A wealth of information can be seen from these documents making
them an incredible source for anyone interested in historical or genealogical
research.

Individual research will follow the program.

Society will be Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in the Mildred Lankerd
Thomas Genealogy Library, 300 North McKean Street, Kittanning, PA

Guest speaker will be Dottie Kunselman on Find A Grave. Dottie is a lifelong
resident of Armstrong County who resides in Distant. She is an Ordained minister
and has served the Oakdale Church of the Brethren in Distant for 20 1/2 years.

Dottie started a search for her family history several years ago. After she was
introduced to Find A Grave, she began going to cemeteries, taking photos, and
searching for obituaries to help others put together their family history.
After what began as a family search, it turned into a hobby and addiction. She
has been a member of Find A Grave for 4 1/2 years and has added several thousand
memorials to the site. Dottie said, “It is amazing the amount of information
there is on Find A Grave and you can have access to it right from your own home
and computer.”

Dottie will explain what Find A Grave is, who started it, how to join, how to
search for cemeteries, link family members, add photos or request a photo, how
to search by date, and add burial records. This promises to be a very
informative presentation.

This meeting was re-scheduled from July 6 due to the 4th of July holiday and it
will be a research meeting.

Guest speaker will be Marilyn Holt of the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society.
She will be discussing the resources that are available at the Pennsylvania Department
of the Carnegie Library and the Western Pa. Genealogical Society. This promises to
be a very informative presentation.

Individual research will follow the program.
