During the 18th and 19th centuries many parents used traditional naming patterns to assign names to their children. Combining an understanding of these traditions with your knowledge of an ancestor’s children, often allows you to discover the names of more ancient ancestors. For example, the children’s names may clearly reflect the identity of their grandparents and other relatives. Mr. Montgomery will discuss these traditions and, using a case study, demonstrate how they can be used in genealogical research. He will also provide worksheets to help you apply the technique to your family tree.

The Armstrong Historical Museum and Genealogical Society offer this and other such programs to help you pass along your family story to its newest members.

Write down your family history and pass it on.
